- Kazakh
TKIC 402 Intensive Elementary Kazakh (15)
Intensive study of grammar, with oral and written drill and reading of simple texts in Kazakh. Covers first-year Kazakh. Cannot be taken for credit if 414, 415, 416 taken. Offered: SUMMER
TKIC 405 Intensive Intermediate Kazakh (15)
Allows students to complete second-year Kazakh in one quarter. Reading of selected texts in modern literary Kazakh, with emphasis on grammar, syntax, and oral practice. Prerequisite: either TKIC 402 or TKIC 416. Offered: SUMMER
TKIC 414-416 Introduction to Kazakh (9)
Position of Kazakh within the community of other Turkic languages; alphabets used for Kazakh; reading of texts from Kazakhstan and China (Xinjiang); oral and written exercises. Cannot be taken for credit if 402 taken. Sequence of three.

TKIC 403 Intensive Elementary Kirghiz (15)
Intensive study of grammar with oral and written drill of selected texts. Offered: SUMMER
- Uygur
TKIC 407 Intensive Elementary Uygur (15)
Covers all four linguistic skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Offered: SUMMER
TKIC 417-419 Introduction to Uygur (15)
Designed for students with no prior knowledge of Uygur. Includes acquisition of Uygur Arabic alphabet, general phonological rules, and basic grammar. Basic reading, listening, and oral comprehension practice all offered throughout the course. Sequence of three.
TKIC 427-429 Intermediate Uygur (15)
Second-year Uygur. Includes reading, translation, oral comprehension, and composition. Sequence of three. Prerequisite: TKIC 419.
TKIC 437-439 Advanced Uygur (15)
Focuses on reading, writing, translation, and oral comprehension at an advanced level. Students gain fluency in order to work in social and scientific environments where only the Uygur language is used. Sequence of three.

TKIC 411-413 Introduction to Uzbek (15)
Introduction to the modern written and spoken language. Cannot be taken for credit if 401 taken.
TKIC 421-423 Intermediate Uzbek (9)
Continuation of elementary Uzbek. Oral work, grammar, and readings in Uzbek literature.Sequence of three. Prerequisite: TKIC 413.
TKIC 454-456 Introduction to Uzbek Literature (9)
Readings from selected Uzbek writers. Content varies. Sequence of three.
